China Recovery Effort
After China suffered one of the worst earthquakes in decades, it was especially heartbreaking to learn of the effect this disaster had on the country’s children. Upon hearing about the tragic events, The Konica Minolta Colorful Tomorrow Foundation (CTF) implemented a fundraiser to raise monies dedicated to rebuilding the school infrastructure in a devastated region of China.
Through Konica Minolta employee donations, the CTF was successful in raising more than $42,000 for this important cause. In total, the Phoenix Sister Cities Chengdu Earthquake Relief Fund raised more than $120,000 that has been sent to Chengdu, China, to help rebuild schools that were devastated during a massive earthquake in May.
"We were all affected by the Chengdu earthquake and wanted to show our support in China’s relief efforts," said Jun Haraguchi, President and CEO, Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. "In keeping with our corporate social-responsibility charter to help children, we chose to focus on supporting the rebuilding of schools with a donation to Chengdu’s sister city, Phoenix, to aid in this critical effort."
Konica Minolta employees were so touched by disaster that they not only contributed financially but shared these thoughts:
"I only wish we could give more. Our hearts go out to the victims and families of this tragedy. We will keep them in our prayers."
"It's just so overwhelming to read the stories online about this part of the world and the impact of this disaster on each person. It's wonderful to be a part of an organization that cares enough to reach out."
