McDonogh 15

Affectionately known as “The Little Red School House,” McDonogh 15 is part of the national Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP) network of schools and is located in the French Quarter just off Bourbon Street. McDonogh 15 is a haven for students who rhyme to arithmetic, draw the dinosaur age and sing the state capitals – cultivating the next generation of famous New Orleans artists, scholars and leaders.

The Colorful Tomorrow Foundation’s vision for the Little Red School House is to create a better environment for learning and to provide the means to help some students meet tuition obligations to attend private high schools in New Orleans.

The Little Red School House suffered structural damage during Hurricane Katrina. Despite efforts from the teachers, students, and parents… much work still needed to be done to get the school ready for the start of the 2006-2007 school year. Funds were raised for needed renovations, including the renovation of the school's bathrooms and the repair of one of the school's major staircases.

Beyond the structural improvements, the Colorful Tomorrow Foundation has also instituted a program to provide three high school scholarships to three graduating 8th grade students each year– which will amount to $15,000 per student’s 4-year high school career. In June 2007, the first three scholarships were awarded to graduating eighth graders, all of whom are now attending area private schools focused on the creative and musical arts with added emphasis on the pursuit of higher education.

In April 2009, the Konica Minolta Colorful Tomorrow Foundation returned to McDonogh 15, and awarded three new scholarships to graduating eighth graders, all of whom will attend local private schools focused on the creative and musical arts with added emphasis on the pursuit of higher education.
